If code-red happens, what should you do? The golden rule is to keep your child safe, intervene at any moment you are concerned about their safety. Try and ignore the behaviour, orientate away from them whilst at the same time keeping an eye on what is happening. As soon as you see them coming around, ask them to make a choice or do something simple for you, like put something in the bin. This small interaction should support them to co-operate with you again. Immediately praise them for their co-operative behaviour. Don’t mention the tantrum. There is no need to. Your message will be clear by ignoring the undesired behaviour and immediately attending to the co-operative behaviour.
