We can use the same game to target different language skills.
Practice at a level that has your child excited to play and wanting to talk. |
What are the kids doing?
Here's a game to use our modeling strategies. The way you engage your child determines the type of answer you will get!
Model the word: "Bouncing" (click picture), (point to) "bouncing", (stop the animation by clicking on a different animaiton), "bouncing?", child imitates "bouncing" as a request.
Choice of two: I see ___ or ___? (e.g.: I see bouncing or swinging?)
Choice of two as a prompt: What is s/he doing? (pause- does your child answer) Is s/he ___ or ___?
*** your child may more readily respond if you show the animation, make it stop, then ask and reward your child's response by reanimating the picture. -this has your child make a request instead of a comment.
Expanding language: Recast or add onto what your child says. e.g.: "bouncing!" you say "I see bouncing" or whatever the goal area we have talked about!
...you get the idea. We talk about modeling language during our sessions. Follow our session notes and respond to your child!
Remember, say the words aloud to practice language.
